Grandmother and the Rain
My grandmother always brewed genmaicha when it rained. Children laughing in the kitchen, wet umbrellas by the door, the scent of rice and tea in the same pot. Once I asked her why she didn’t prepare something more elegant. She looked at me and said: “This tea is like home. A few leaves, a little fire, and always something warm.” Only when I grew up did I realize how true that was.
