Karigane is a special type of Japanese tea, made from the leaves, stems and twigs that remain after harvesting premium varieties such as the prestigious Gyokuro. Nevertheless, these parts of the tea plant are valuable and offer a delicate aroma with a lower content of tannins and caffeine. Thanks to its composition, sweet and fresh umami tones are intertwined in this tea, giving it a unique character. Karigane tea is prepared with water heated to 70–80 °C. Use approximately 4–5 grams of tea per 100 ml of water and steep for 1 minute. After the first steeping, the tea can be steeped once or more. Serve the tea in small cups to enjoy its delicate, sweet taste.

Vsaka črta natančna, vsaka barva premišljena – a v njegovem srcu je nekaj manjkalo.Nekega večera je obiskal strica. Starejši mož mu brez besed postreže skodelico toplega karigane. Hiro pihne v paro, opazuje, okuša. »To ni Gyokuro,« reče tiho. Stric se nasmehne. »Karigane. Nežen, preprost. Ni popoln – ampak govori jasno. Tako kot tvoja roka, ko ji pustiš dihati.« Hiro pogleda v skodelico, potem vase. Umetnost, kot čaj, ni v popolnosti – ampak v iskrenosti. Tiste noči je Hiro dolgo opazoval svoje slike. Naslednje jutro je na vsako izmed njih dodal eno drobno, nepopolno črto.
