Genmaicha is a traditional Japanese tea that combines green tea, usually Sencho or Bancho, and roasted rice. To prepare Genmaicha tea, heat the water to approximately 80°C. Place 4 g of tea in a cup and pour hot water over it. Steep the tea for 2-3 minutes, then strain. The process can be repeated if desired.

Moja babica je vedno pripravljala genmaicho, kadar je deževalo. Smeh otrok v kuhinji, mokri dežniki pri vratih, vonj po rižu in čaju v istem loncu. Enkrat sem jo vprašala, zakaj ne pripravi nečesa bolj elegantnega. Pogledala me je in rekla: »Ta čaj je kot dom. Malo listov, malo ognja, in vedno nekaj toplega.« Šele ko sem odrasla, sem razumela, kako res je to bilo.
